Part of the reason I start training with using a mat is that it allows a puppy to learn multiple skills easily. Karma is a typical puppy. She wants all the things when she wants them, the world is hers! By using food at floor level I can begin to teach her to leave the container alone and remain on the mat. Trying to get food herself never works (but also doesn’t result in punishment) but going to mat always works. I’m letting her figure it out. No need for telling her ‘no’ or pushing her away o
