Behind the scenes at the Tees Barrage - ITV News, 22 September 2025 This year marked the 30th anniversary of the Tees Barrage. The 70-metre wide barrage incorporates four eight metre tall, 50-tonne floodgates, responsible for controlling the flow and level of the river. Construction began in November 1991 and fully opened in April 1995. It was at the time of its construction the largest engineering project in the country, costing around £55 million and using 650 tonnes of steel. | Yarm-on-Tees
