Southland residents are being asked to take precautions after health officials found mosquito samples testing positive for West Nile virus in Los Angeles and Orange counties, officials said Wednesday.

Colorado health officials said mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus have been found in Adams, Boulder, Denver, Larimer and Weld counties.

Public health officials on July 22 said mosquito samples collected in Anaheim and Garden Grove have tested positive for West Nile virus, the first confirmed virus activity this year.
