The fair as it is known today was organized in 1939 by the Central Washington State Fair Association and has been held every year except from 1942 to 1945, during World War II.
The fair is currently scheduled for September 4-27, 2020. “We are diligently working on modifications to safely reopen our events center,” a statement on the Washington State Fair website reads.
The Puyallup Fair is run by a private, nonprofit organization, the Western Washington Fair Association, and does not receive state funding, he said. The fair began Sept. 7 and ends Sunday.
In 1913 it switched to the Western Washington Fair, and has been called the Puyallup Fair since 1976. Not everyone’s going to be happy with the name change, of course — at least at first.
