It wouldn’t be a proper Deadline day without an A.J. Preller trade binge. The Padres' general manager did not disappoint. Preller reshaped his roster in a major way on Thursday -- making five deals that involved 22 players before the Trade Deadline.

Preller brought flame-throwing closer Mason Miller along with starter J.P. Sears to San Diego in a deal with the A’s, trading away No. 3 overall prospect Leo De Vries and three other top-20 prospects in the Padres’ system.

The surging San Diego Padres entered the 2025 MLB trade deadline with three All-Star relievers already in their bullpen. They now have a fourth. San Diego landed Athletics closer Mason Miller and starting pitcher JP Sears from the Athletics on Thursday morning.

The Cardinals visit the Padres. The Cards’ Andre Pallante one-hit the Fish over seven strong, but he gave up 17 runs on 25 hits over his previous 15 ²/₃ innings.
