For a front office that has taken plenty of well-deserved slings and arrows for its roster management, landing Carlos Narváez in December in exchange for pitching prospect Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz is a win they will happily take.

Factoring in his two hits in Sunday’s win for Boston, Narváez is now hitting .282 with a 128 wRC+. Mariners star catcher Cal Raleigh, who leads MLB in home runs, is the only qualified backstop in the American League with a higher OPS (1.173) than Narváez (.834). He could’ve been the perfect right-handed platoon option with Wells this year.

Calling Narvaez the Red Sox’ early-season MVP isn’t hyperbole. As of Monday, he’s tied with slugger Rafael Devers for the third-highest fWAR on the team (2.2). Only Crochet (2.5) and star third baseman Alex Bregman (2.4) rank above him.
