Even after re-signing Pete Alonso and Sean Manaea and adding Juan Soto, Clay Holmes and other veterans to the roster, the Mets are heading into the trade deadline with a chance to fortify their World Series aspirations. The team has been linked to frontline starter Dylan Cease, who could suddenly be on the San Diego Padres' trade block.
With limited payroll flexibility and less prospect capital than a year ago, the Padres could opt to move one of the pitchers.
Despite sitting in the third wild-card spot in the National League, the San Diego Padres are at least willing to listen to offers Dylan Cease prior to the July 31 trade deadline.
