Boston Mayor Michelle Wu proposed an ordinance that would crack down on illegal activity from food delivery drivers who ignore traffic rules and create “dangerous conditions” by zipping around city streets on scooters and mopeds.

The city received more than 100 311 complaints from residents in the past year about dangerous behavior by delivery drivers, Wu said.

The city of Boston says the popularity of food-delivery apps is driving up the number of vehicles on the streets and causing safety concerns. Mayor Michelle Wu wants to require companies like Grubhub and DoorDash to provide liability insurance to all their drivers and share details on what routes drivers are traveling most often.
