LUBBOCK, Texas (NEWS RELEASE) – Despite a five RBI game and an outfield assist from Logan Hughes and another two-run home run from TJ Pompey, Texas Tech Baseball dropped an 11-10 heartbreaker Sunday afternoon at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
It was supposed to be a moment of celebration for Illinois alumni Terrence Shannon Jr. and the University of Illinois as a whole. However, a massive mishap left fans shaking their heads in embarrassment.
The UTEP softball team (9-4) split its Sunday doubleheader at the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic, shutting out Illinois-Chicago with a dominant 9-0 victory before falling to No. 12 Texas Tech, 3-0.
Illinois honored Terrence Shannon’s jersey at halftime Saturday. But when Shannon pulled a string to reveal the banner that would hang at the State Farm Center, it was upside down.

Illinois athletic director Josh Whitman offered up a heartfelt apology Saturday night after the jersey retirement ceremony of Terrence Shannon Jr. went sideways -- er, upside down, rather -- when the unveiling of his jersey to be hung in the rafters unfurled facing the wrong direction.
