The Pittsburgh Penguins and perhaps Rickard Rakell got some good news since Sunday. Rakell left the team sometime after the loss on Saturday to the Washington Capitals to return to Pittsburgh and tend to a family matter.

The Pens keep building and find another goal, Philip Tomasino swoops around Edmundson and sends a pass over for Evgeni Malkin. Malkin shoots quickly and beats the goalie five-hole with the lateral movement.

After Keller recovered the puck for Utah's first possession in overtime, it took only seconds before Utah got its only goal shot of the period. With Utah's Barrett Hayton slapping the ice to call for the puck, Sergachev passed to Hayton right in front of Penguins goalie Alex Nedeljkovic.

Sidney Crosby scored an emotional overtime winner with a backhand shot that amazingly sliced between the almost nonexistent space between Utah HC goalie Connor Ingram’s pad and glove.

The Penguins held on the rest of the third period to secure at least a loser’s point, and then controlled the puck for most of overtime. Crosby then turned to his trademark backhand for his 95th career game-winning goal, and fourth tally in five games to send the Penguins back to Pittsburgh in better spirits.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (20-24-8) have one more chance to salvage a good feeling from this extended seven-game road trip that seemingly began a lifetime ago with a joyous victory over the Buffalo Sabres and Alex Nedeljkovic’s goalie goal.

With forward Evgeni Malkin sidelined due to an undisclosed injury, the Pittsburgh Penguins fell to the San Jose Sharks, 2-1, at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif. on Monday. Earlier in the day, the team placed Malkin on injured reserve.
