NEW JERSEY ( WPIX) — A person went overboard Saturday after a boat hit a whale off the New Jersey coast on Saturday. The whale was struck shortly before 4 p.m. in Barnegat Bay, according to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, and the vessel nearly capsized in the incident.

A minke whale died Saturday in a Jersey Shore bay a short time after videos showed it collide with a boat, nearly capsizing the vessel and throwing a person overboard.

A necropsy is scheduled for Monday, where the whale will be towed to a state park to determine the official cause of death.
