Chain controls in effect on I-80 in Sierra as Christmas Eve storm soaks Northern California
Roads are a mess across Northern California as a storm moves through the region on Christmas Eve. The main front of the system started passing through the region very early Wednesday morning. Areas with poor drainage and backed-up storm drains saw some localized flooding across the Sacramento Valley.
On Wednesday at 9:02 p.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated winter storm watch valid from Friday 1 p.m. until Saturday noon for Northern Wayne and Southern Wayne as well as Susquehanna, Lackawanna and Pike counties.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch at 1:07 p.m. on Wednesday valid from Friday 4 p.m. until Saturday 1 p.m. for Passaic, Hudson, Bergen, Essex and Union counties.
Officials in Los Angeles and surrounding counties warned that a "very dangerous" holiday storm could trigger "widespread flash flooding."
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power reports numerous power outages in various parts of its service area.

Several days of rain and powerful wind gusts are in the forecast this week when a winter storm has already led to evacuation warnings in parts of Los Angeles County settles into Southern California for the holiday.
