Dillon Mitchell had 14 points and 13 rebounds as No. 25 St. John’s blew out Butler 92-70 at Madison Square Garden for its seventh consecutive victory.

“Unfortunately the FOX agreement prevented [St. John’s] from playing in the CBS Classic,” said a source close to St. John’s leadership. FOX holds major Big East broadcast rights as the lead network partner under a six-year deal that began this season, extending through 2030-31.

However, FOX Sports exercised what is known as a “footprint clause” in its media rights deal with the Big East, preventing St. John’s from appearing in the CBS-owned event. The clause designates games involving Big East schools within certain geographic or contractual parameters as FOX properties.

The NCAA recognizes Pitino with only 777 wins after stripping him of 123 because of infractions at Louisville. Bob Knight had 899 victories, but is credited with 902 by the NCAA because three losses were later ruled forfeits as punishment for program violations by Indiana opponents.
