The stretch of I-80 eastbound through Wharton will remain closed with a detour route as the Department of Transportation continues with repairs. The DOT offered no estimate as to when the highway would be fully open.

A sinkhole that has closed all eastbound lanes of Interstate-80 through a stretch of New Jersey since last week will take an additional three weeks to assess and repair, an official said Monday.

Repairs on the massive sinkhole that have closed all eastbound lanes on I-80 in Morris County will continue for another three weeks, officials said. The sinkhole occurred Feb. 10 in a center lane on the eastbound side of the highway in Wharton. It measured 11-feet by 11-feet and was four feet deep, according to the Department of Transportation.
