The fair formerly known as the Puyallup, now renamed the “Washington State Fair,” is again open for business. The rides, the music, the animals, the deliciously bad for you food.
The Puyallup Fair is run by a private, nonprofit organization, the Western Washington Fair Association, and does not receive state funding, he said. The fair began Sept. 7 and ends Sunday.
In 1913 it switched to the Western Washington Fair, and has been called the Puyallup Fair since 1976. Not everyone’s going to be happy with the name change, of course — at least at first.
The fair as it is known today was organized in 1939 by the Central Washington State Fair Association and has been held every year except from 1942 to 1945, during World War II.
