The following day, the Canadian teenager improved to 4-1 in those contests with her biggest win of the grouping yet. Taking on defending champion Madison Keys, Mboko outdueled the No. 2 seed for a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 victory.
Andreeva rallied from 3-0 down, sweeping nine consecutive games before Mboko called for the doctor when trailing a set and 3-0. The number 17 came back after a seven-minute medical timeout and blood pressure check and won her first game to end the Andreeva hot streak.
One year after Victoria Mboko’s breakout season delivered titles across three levels, the 19-year-old Canadian is already one win from completing another line on her rapidly growing résumé in Adelaide.
