No. 2 South Carolina succeeded in its first big test of the season with a 69-52 win over No. 8 USC on Saturday at the iconic Crypto.com Arena. Like many other teams across the nation, the Gamecocks are working on finding their identity after the departure of key players.

South Carolina Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley delivered a strong message about one of her best players after beating the USC Trojans.

Offense stalled a bit midway through the second for both teams, but thanks to a Laura Williams basket, USC evened the game at 26. Edwards and Tessa Johnson scored on four free throws down the stretch for the Gamecocks, but a Malia Samuels floater at the b uzzer brought the Trojans within two at the break, 32-30.
