The United States and its European allies are finalising a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine that if refused would see them jointly impose new sanctions on Russia, a French diplomatic source said on Friday.

President Trump has called for an “unconditional" 30-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine and said the U.S. will impose sanctions if it’s not respected.

Russian gas exports to Europe were slashed after the Nord Stream pipelines under the Baltic Sea were blown up in 2022. At the start of this year, gas flows via Ukraine came to a halt after Kyiv refused to renew a transit agreement because of the war.
