Earlier Tuesday, Macron and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed their "full solidarity" with Denmark and Greenland following the US announcement of the appointment of a special envoy to the territory. On Monday, the European Union said it will continue to stand in solidarity with Denmark and Greenland.

Denmark has summoned the US ambassador after Donald Trump appointed a special envoy to “take control” of Greenland, sparking a diplomatic crisis with the NATO ally. Greenland is again in the sights of US President Donald Trump.

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry said on X that the special envoy position would be "a volunteer position to make Greenland a part of the U.S."

The dispute centers on the envoy’s stated goal for Greenland. Denmark, which holds sovereignty over the island within the Kingdom of Denmark, called the stance unacceptable. The reaction signals that tensions over the issue have not faded since 2019, when President Trump suggested purchasing the territory.
