California’s governor keeps talking about creating new House seats in response to a Texas gerrymander. But the gambit could backfire on Democrats.

Warning of a “five-alarm fire for democracy,” Gov. Gavin Newsom Friday suggested the possibility of California redrawing its congressional districts in response to actions in Texas.

Newsom told reporters the GOP's push to redraw congressional maps in Texas is a "five-alarm fire for democracy in the United States" and is doubling down on his threat to overhaul California's redistricting process.

Friday for apparently being unaware that the Texas Legislature is currently in recess amid a special session. Having commenced on Monday, the special session was called by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to address flood warning systems following the deadly Central Texas flood earlier this month,
