The first person reported to have died from measles in the U.S. in a decade, a "school-aged child" who perished overnight in a children's hospital in West Texas, was announced by health officials on Wednesday,

The first death has been recorded in the Texas measles outbreak. Till date, 124 people have been infected by the disease, with the maximum in Gaines County. Most of the cases have been identified in children.

LUBBOCK — A person who was hospitalized with measles has died from measles in West Texas, the first death in an outbreak that began late last month. Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center spokesperson Melissa Whitfield confirmed the death Wednesday. It wasn’t clear the age of the patient, who died overnight.
