Former U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez was sentenced Wednesday to 11 years in prison for accepting bribes of gold and cash and acting as an agent of Egypt — crimes his lawyer said he’s been mocked for as “Gold Bar Bob.

Former Sen. Bob Menendez pleaded not guilty to all of the charges against him and has vowed to appeal the conviction and sentence.

Bob Menendez, 71, was found guilty on all 16 counts in his federal trial, becoming the first sitting member of Congress to be convicted of acting as a foreign agent.
