The Trump administration said Monday it was convening an emergency task force and fast-tracking urgent steps to prevent additional telecom outages at the facility overseeing Newark air traffic after three incidents have shaken public confidence.
Sunday's incident marks the fourth time in the past two weeks that technical problems have disrupted air traffic at Newark.
At times Monday evening, as few as three air traffic controllers per hour were lined up to monitor via radar the planes flying into and out of the airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
A Port Authority official says that outdated tech, a shift in air traffic control staff and routine runway work converged at Newark Airport.
